What’s your golf cart actually worth right now?

Whether you’re thinking about selling, trading up, or just want to know where you stand, here’s the number that surprises most owners: a well-kept cart can still be worth 60–70% of what you paid five years later. The catch is that a handful of cheap, fixable things decide which side of that range you land on.

Golf carts don’t depreciate like cars. They typically lose about 15–20% in the first year, then roughly 10–12% a year through year five, with the drop slowing to just 3–5% a year after that. A well-maintained cart from a major brand — Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha — can still hold 50–70% of its original price at the five-year mark, meaning a $10,000 cart is often worth $6,000–$7,000. Lesser-known brands hold less, which is worth knowing before you buy as much as before you sell.

On an electric cart, the battery is the single biggest variable. Strong batteries that hold a full charge are worth roughly $800–$1,500 more than weak or dead ones — and a tired pack does double damage, because it signals an $800–$2,000 replacement coming and scares buyers off during the test drive.

A cart with a lithium pack typically sell $800–$2,000 higher than comparable lead-acid carts, because buyers want maintenance-free power that lasts 8–10+ years instead of 4–6. The rest is condition, and most of it is cheap. A cart in excellent shape can sell for 25–30% more than the same cart in fair shape.

The fixes with the best return: a deep clean with vinyl protectant on the seats and dash; good tires (dry-rotted ones are an instant red flag and one of the fastest value fixes); and fresh lights — an LED headlight/taillight set runs about $200–$400 installed and adds $150–$300 while making the whole cart look newer.

Not sure where your cart lands on that 60–70% line? The fastest way to find out is to have someone go through it the way a buyer would — battery health under load, tires, lights, brakes, and the cosmetic items that move the price. We’ll come to your driveway, tell you straight what’s solid and what’s costing you value, and what’s worth fixing before you list.
