Four Tires That Wouldn't Hold Air: Fixing the Real Cause on a 6-Passenger Cart in Corona

Rachel's white six-passenger cart had a stubborn problem: all four tires would not hold air.

Jakob headed out to Corona to find out why, and the answer was on the wheels themselves. Every wheel had heavy curb rash, and those rough edges had torn the tire beads. A torn bead can't seal against the rim, so the air kept finding its way out.

New tires alone weren't going to fix that, so Jakob started with the wheels. He sanded the damaged edges down until they were smooth and removed all the burrs, giving the new tires a clean edge to seal against. Then he installed four new tires.

With the new set on, the tires appeared to be holding air.

The happy ending: Rachel's six-seater is back on fresh rubber, and the wheels it rides on are smooth again instead of chewed up.

If your cart keeps losing air, take a look at the wheel edges too. Curb rash can tear a tire bead and leave you with a slow leak that keeps coming back.
