Golf-Course Bred. Independent Suspension. AC Drive.

The E-Z-GO Freedom RXV is the chassis that golf-course operators have been buying for two decades and recommending to their members for residential use. RXV - Recreational eXcellence Vehicle - was E-Z-GO's first AC-drive cart, and the first golf cart with true independent rear suspension. That suspension is the reason the RXV rides like a luxury cart while every other cart on the course rides like - well, like a golf cart. If your daily use involves actual golf, or if you've ever owned a Yamaha Drive and want better, this is the E-Z-GO that delivers.

E-Z-GO Freedom RXV Configurations

RXV Electric (48V AC)

AC drive with regenerative braking, 48V lead-acid or lithium. The default RXV configuration for residential and golf-course use. Quietest, smoothest, lowest-maintenance option.

RXV Gas (Kawasaki EX1)

13.5 hp Kawasaki gas engine, ideal for hilly courses, hilly residential neighborhoods, or buyers who want a gas cart with the IRS suspension. Cold-start reliability and excellent parts availability.

RXV Lithium Upgrade

Drop-in lithium pack on the AC-drive chassis. Range jumps to 70-90 miles realistic, service life to 8-10+ years. The premium choice for serious golfers who play 5+ rounds a week.

RXV LSV

Street-legal RXV with DOT lighting, mirrors, seatbelts, VIN, and DMV registration. Less common than Liberty LSV but available - the IRS ride is exceptional at LSV speeds.

Who Should Buy the E-Z-GO Freedom RXV?

Serious golfers

If you play 5+ rounds a week and the cart is your second-most-used vehicle (after your car), the RXV's IRS suspension and AC-drive smoothness are the differentiators. Long days on the cart are easier on your back, knees, and your equipment.

Golf-course communities

Country club and golf-course community residents who want a cart engineered for actual golf use - not a personal cart that happens to drive on grass. The RXV is what your course's pro shop is probably already using.

Hilly-terrain buyers

The gas RXV with the Kawasaki EX1 is one of the strongest hill-climbers in the EZGO lineup. If you live in hilly Canyon Lake, parts of Fallbrook, or rolling Coachella Valley terrain, this is a real buying consideration.

RXV Drivetrain Options

The RXV offers both electric and gas - drivetrain choice is meaningful for this chassis:

  • Electric AC (48V lead-acid): The standard golf-course configuration. ~20-25 mile range, 4-6 year battery service. AC drive is smoother than older DC carts and supports regenerative braking.
  • Electric AC (lithium): The premium configuration for high-mileage golfers - 70-90 mile real-world range, 8-10+ year service life, almost zero maintenance. Worth the upgrade if you play multiple times per week.
  • Gas (Kawasaki EX1 13.5 hp): The right answer for hilly terrain, daily ranges over 30 miles, or buyers who don't want to think about charging. Excellent cold-start reliability and parts availability.

Street-Legal LSV Configuration

RXV LSV conversions are available but less common than Liberty or Express LSV - the RXV's golf-course pedigree means most buyers stay in golf-cart trim. If you do want LSV, the RXV's IRS suspension makes it one of the most comfortable LSVs at the 25 mph top speed.

E-Z-GO Freedom RXV Buying FAQ

What does 'IRS suspension' actually feel like?

Independent rear suspension means each rear wheel moves independently instead of as a solid axle. The practical result: cart pitches less over uneven terrain, passengers don't feel every dip and bump, and the cart corners flatter. On a fairway, you'll notice it within 10 minutes. On a residential street, you'll notice it the first time you take a speed bump.

Should I buy electric or gas RXV?

Electric (with lithium upgrade) for most residential users - quieter, cleaner, lower maintenance, lower long-term cost. Gas if you have hills, if your daily range routinely exceeds 30 miles, or if you simply prefer the gas-cart character (some buyers do).

Is the RXV good for residential use, or only for golf?

Both. The RXV started as a golf-course cart but is now one of the most popular E-Z-GO models for residential active-adult and country-club community use. The IRS suspension actually matters more on residential streets than on a manicured fairway.

How long does the AC drive motor last?

AC drive motors typically run 10-15+ years with normal residential or club-level use. They have fewer wear parts than DC motors (no brushes), regenerative braking reduces brake wear, and parts and service support is excellent. We service RXVs that are 15+ years old still on the original drive motor.

Does the RXV come in 6-passenger?

No. The RXV is 2-passenger or 2+2 with the rear flip seat. If you need 6 passengers, the Express S6 or L6 is the right E-Z-GO. We can help you compare side-by-side.

Can you service the RXV in the Coachella Valley?

Yes. We run a regular Coachella Valley service route - La Quinta, Palm Desert, Indio, Rancho Mirage, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells. RXV service is one of our most-requested calls in country-club communities out there.
