The Workhorse. Continuously Refined Since 1996.

The E-Z-GO Freedom TXT is the classic. The TXT chassis has been continuously refined since 1996, and it's the cart that defines what most people picture when they think 'golf cart.' It's not the newest, not the most premium, but it is the most-deployed E-Z-GO platform in history - which means parts availability is unmatched, service knowledge is universal, and resale value is solid. For buyers who want a no-drama, dealer-supported, lowest-entry-price E-Z-GO, the TXT is the right answer.

TXT Gas (Kawasaki)

Kawasaki gas engine - reliable, parts-available, cold-start ready. The right TXT for hilly terrain, longer daily ranges, or limited charging access.

TXT Lithium Upgrade

Drop-in lithium pack on the electric TXT. We install Samsung SDI, RELiON, or Allied. Doubles range, lasts 8-10+ years, eliminates watering. Most-requested upgrade we perform.

TXT LSV

Who Should Buy the E-Z-GO Freedom TXT?

Budget-conscious buyers

If you want the E-Z-GO brand, dealer support, and full warranty - but you don't need premium trim, AC drive, or four forward-facing seats - the TXT is the lowest-entry-price answer.

Ranch, farm, and second-home owners

Need a cart that runs, hauls a little, and doesn't demand premium ownership economics? The gas TXT with leaf-spring rear is purpose-built for ranch and second-home use. Cold-start reliability matters when the cart sits for two weeks at a time.

Light-use personal carts

Coffee runs, mail runs, around-the-block social rides. If your cart is going to log 5-10 miles a day in light residential use, the TXT is overengineered for the job - which means it'll easily outlive your ownership.

Restoration and customization buyers

The TXT is the most-customized E-Z-GO chassis. Lift kits, custom bodies, paint, audio, lighting - the aftermarket ecosystem around the TXT is enormous. Buy a TXT, customize it however you want, have us service it.

TXT Drivetrain Options

The TXT is offered in three primary drivetrain configurations:

  • Electric 48V (lead-acid): Standard configuration, ~20-25 mile range, 4-6 year battery service. The lowest entry price.
  • Electric 48V (lithium upgrade): Drop-in lithium (Samsung SDI, RELiON, Allied) doubles range to ~50 miles real-world and lasts 8-10+ years. The TXT is the most-upgraded chassis we install lithium on - the math is straightforward and the result is excellent.
  • Gas (Kawasaki): The right answer for hilly terrain, daily ranges over 30 miles, ranch/farm use, or anywhere charging access is intermittent.

Street-Legal LSV Configuration

The TXT is one of the most popular LSV conversion targets in the EZGO lineup - lowest cart cost combined with full LSV equipment makes it the lowest-cost-of-entry street-legal cart from an authorized dealer.

E-Z-GO Freedom TXT Buying FAQ

Is the TXT outdated compared to newer carts?

The TXT chassis is 1996-era, but it's been continuously refined - current TXTs share little but the design philosophy with original TXTs. The advantage: parts and service knowledge are universal, and the chassis is one of the most-proven in golf-cart history. The tradeoff: no AC drive, no IRS suspension, no premium trim available from the factory.

Should I buy a TXT or upgrade to an Express?

Buy a TXT if your use is light-to-moderate, the price difference matters, and you don't need 6-passenger capability or premium trim. Upgrade to an Express if you want the heavier-duty rear suspension, the gas Kawasaki EX1 (more powerful than older TXT gas options), or more passenger configurations.

Is the TXT a good lithium upgrade candidate?

Excellent. The TXT 48V electric is one of the most lithium-upgraded chassis on the road. Drop-in pack, full programming, and on-site commissioning. Range roughly doubles, weight drops, acceleration improves, and battery service life jumps from 4-6 years to 8-10+.

Can I customize a TXT (lift kit, body, audio, etc.)?

Yes. The TXT has the largest aftermarket ecosystem of any golf cart platform. We install lift kits (3in, 4in, 6in), custom body kits, premium audio, LED lighting packages, and full street-legal LSV conversion. If you've seen a customized cart, there's a 70% chance it's a TXT underneath.

How long do TXT carts last?

15-20+ years of regular service is normal for a TXT that gets basic preventive maintenance. We routinely service TXTs that are 20+ years old still in daily use. Properly maintained, this is one of the most long-lived golf cart platforms ever made.

Does the TXT come with a warranty?

Yes - factory E-Z-GO warranty (terms vary by component, typically 2-4 years on the chassis). Lithium upgrade warranties (8-10 years depending on brand) if you go that route. Plus our 90-day warranty on every service we perform.
