E-Z-GO Certified Pre-Owned Golf Carts: What $5,995 Actually Buys You in Southern California

A new 2027 E-Z-GO Liberty 4F starts at $13,499. A Liberty 4 starts at $11,999. Those are good carts, and for a lot of people in Canyon Lake and Temecula they are exactly the right purchase.

They are also the number that ends the conversation for everybody else.

There is a middle option most shoppers in Riverside County never hear about, because it doesn't sit on a lot with a banner over it: E-Z-GO's Certified Pre-Owned program, starting at $5,995. Not a used cart. Not a marketplace gamble. A factory-reconditioned RXV rebuilt in Augusta, Georgia, with a real warranty attached.

Here is what that actually means, what the price does and doesn't cover, and how to tell whether it's the smarter buy for you than either a new cart or a private-party used one.

What "Certified Pre-Owned" means at E-Z-GO — and what it doesn't

"Certified" is a word that gets used loosely in the golf cart world. Plenty of sellers call a cart certified because they charged the batteries and washed it.

E-Z-GO's program is narrower and more specific than that. A CPO vehicle is an RXV that goes back to the factory in Augusta, gets stripped down, gets a defined list of components replaced with new parts, gets inspected against a factory checklist, and then gets a warranty.

The parts that are new on every CPO cart

E-Z-GO publishes this list, and it's worth reading closely, because it's most of what you touch and most of what fails:

Component New on every CPO unit
Floormats
Hardware
Lights
Seats
State-of-charge meter
Steering wheel
Tires
Top, struts, and windshield
Trim and logos
Body, cowl, and bumper

New tires alone are a real number. New seats and a new top are another. New body panels are why a CPO cart doesn't look like a used cart.

The inspection

Beyond the replaced parts, E-Z-GO says every CPO vehicle gets a full evaluation of the steering unit, alignment, axles, floorboards, dash, and battery amperage, plus fourteen other areas, performed by factory-certified technicians.

That last item — battery amperage — is the one to care about most. Battery condition is where used electric carts quietly cost people thousands of dollars, and it is the single hardest thing to verify yourself in a driveway.

You can configure it

CPO isn't take-what-you-get. E-Z-GO offers 8 color options, 3 seat choices, and 5 wheel and tire options, and you can now build and price a CPO RXV online before you ever talk to anyone.

The warranty is the actual product

Everything above is nice. This is the part that changes the math:

  • 1-year vehicle warranty
  • Up to a 4-year battery warranty, depending on the vehicle's model year

Compare that to a private-party used cart, where your warranty is a handshake and a phone number that stops answering.

We see the other version of this story constantly. Somebody buys a used cart for $4,000, feels good about it for six weeks, and then needs a battery pack. On a lead-acid cart that's a four-figure repair; on a lithium pack it can be considerably more. The $2,000 they "saved" evaporates in one service call — and if you want the real numbers on that, we published them in our golf cart repair cost guide.

A warranty isn't a feature. It's a cap on your downside.

What $5,995 does not include

Be clear-eyed about this, because every dealer's advertised starting price works the same way. E-Z-GO's published pricing excludes tax, freight, set-up fees, and dealer-added accessories, and is subject to change. Configuration choices move the number too — the colors, seats, and wheels you pick are not all free.

So treat $5,995 as the floor of a range, not the out-the-door price. Ask any dealer, including us, for the full delivered number in writing before you decide. If someone won't put it in writing, that tells you something.

E-Z-GO also runs factory promotions — a "Beat the Heat" sales event advertising savings of up to $1,500 was live on E-Z-GO's site as of September 1, 2026. Promotion terms, eligible models, and end dates change without much notice, so confirm what's actually available the week you buy rather than the week you read this. Financing is a separate conversation, and we cover the mechanics on our golf cart financing page.

CPO vs. a private-party used cart

This is the real comparison for most people at this price point, so let's be fair to both sides.

A private-party used cart wins on price. You will find carts under $5,000. Sometimes they're fine.

CPO wins on everything you can't see. New wear components, a factory inspection including battery amperage, a 1-year warranty, and a known service history instead of a stranger's account of one.

If you do go the private-party route, don't go in blind — we wrote a used golf cart inspection checklist specifically for that, and it will save you more than it costs you to read. Better still, have it inspected by somebody who works on these for a living before money changes hands. That's a service we perform, and it's a lot cheaper than the alternative.

CPO vs. new: where the money actually goes

The 2027 E-Z-GO lineup, at published starting MSRP:

Model Starting MSRP Notes
Certified Pre-Owned RXV $5,995 Reconditioned, 1-yr warranty
RXV 2 $9,274 Electric or gas, 2 passenger
RXV 4 $10,349 Electric or gas, 4 passenger
Liberty 4 $11,999 Electric or gas, LSV available
Express 6 $12,149 Electric or gas, 6 passenger
Liberty 4F $13,499 Electric, LSV, 4 forward-facing seats

The honest split: buy new if you need current-model features, the newest lithium platform, a factory LSV configuration, six seats, or the longest possible warranty runway. Buy CPO if what you actually need is a reliable four-wheeled way to get around a lake community, and you'd rather put the difference into a lithium upgrade, a lift kit, or nothing at all.

Full current pricing and what changed for the model year is in our 2027 E-Z-GO lineup guide, and the whole new lineup sits on our E-Z-GO carts for sale page. If the RXV platform specifically is what you're after, we have a Freedom RXV page with the details.

What about the cart sitting in your garage right now?

If you're upgrading rather than buying your first cart, your current cart is part of the down payment — and most people undervalue theirs badly, especially if it runs and looks presentable.

Before you accept any trade figure, get an independent read on what it's worth. We put together a guide to what your cart is actually worth right now for exactly this moment. Two things move that number more than anything else: battery health and whether it starts and drives cleanly on the test. A $400 service before the appraisal has a way of returning more than $400.

Is a Certified Pre-Owned cart street legal in California?

Short answer: a standard CPO RXV is a golf cart, not an LSV. In California that means it's limited to specific roads and conditions, and it is not the same legal animal as a factory low-speed vehicle like the Liberty LSV configurations.

That distinction matters a lot here, because Canyon Lake's street-driving culture runs on it. We covered the full rules — LSV vs. NEV vs. golf cart, DMV registration, the 25/35 mph question — in our California golf cart street legal guide. Read it before you buy, not after.

What we'd do the week after you buy one

A CPO cart shows up in good shape. The goal is keeping it that way, and reconditioned doesn't mean maintenance-free.

  • Set a charging routine immediately. How and when you charge does more to determine battery lifespan than anything else you'll do. Chargers and packs are in our E-Z-GO batteries and chargers collection.
  • Learn its baseline. Note how it sounds and how far it goes on a full charge in week one. You cannot diagnose a change you never measured.
  • Get seat covers on it before summer. Inland Empire sun destroys new upholstery faster than anyone expects — seat covers are cheap insurance on a part you just paid for.
  • Plan the upgrades, don't improvise them. Lights, lift kits, and rear seats are all straightforward on an RXV. Browse E-Z-GO accessories and upgrades and do them deliberately.

And when it does need something, that's what we're for. Our mobile golf cart repair service comes to your driveway across Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, and Temecula — every repair carries a 90-day warranty, and we've earned 670+ Google reviews at 4.9 stars doing it.

Frequently asked questions

How old are E-Z-GO CPO carts? They're pre-owned RXV vehicles, and the model year varies by unit — which is why the battery warranty is quoted as "up to 4 years depending on its year." Always ask for the specific model year and the exact battery warranty term on the unit you're being quoted, in writing.

Is a CPO cart lithium or lead-acid? Both exist in the used RXV population, and it materially changes range, weight, maintenance, and resale. Confirm which one is in the specific cart before you commit.

Can I get a CPO cart in Canyon Lake? We're an Authorized E-Z-GO Dealer, and CPO availability rotates — it's factory inventory, not something that sits on a lot indefinitely. Send us what you're looking for and we'll tell you honestly what's available and what it will cost delivered. If a new cart turns out to be the better buy for you, we'll say that too.

Is buying CPO better than paying a shop to rebuild my old cart? Sometimes, and it depends entirely on what your current cart needs. If it needs a battery pack and a controller, you are approaching CPO money. If it needs brakes and a tune-up, rebuilding is almost always cheaper. We'll give you the numbers both ways before you spend anything.
